Although I’ve been a bit less active as ‘ambassador for science’ these last few weeks, not a week can go by without the Voorwerp in it – even if it only makes a small appearance by someone asking or joking about it, or through the occasional quick interview.
One such interview, plus shoot, was done at school again. It was mainly about my view on my career as a teacher and on education in general, for the Dutch magazine Groen Onderwijs (Green Education), with the explanation of my discovery more as a bonus. But nevertheless, a nice mention. Here’s a picture of the 2011 edition 8. I’ve put other pictures of the shoot on the picture page (something the photographer actually reminded me of!)
Then more or less by coincidence a friend of mine told me he was reading this interesting Dutch science magazine, Quest, which featured an article about how “dummies” can contribute to science. And guess what, I was one of the ‘dummies’ mentioned, she said proudly. Although I always like to know everything, and therefore am glad my friend stumbled upon this article, it’s also kind of fun you’re apparently mentioned without realising it. But even more superb is the fact they a) mention five citizen science projects and b) two of them are Zooniverse projects! I’m not sure if the author realised this fact, as she mentions the separate websites only – in this case Galaxy Zoo and Old Weather, both accompanied with an illustration. And she could’ve filled half of the magazine with all the Zooniverse team has been up to, but needless to say, this made me smile.
I did mention citizen science rocks, right?
