The terror of the Christmastreelights.

I do know that’s officially not one word, but I think it should be. Anyway, aren’t they nice, those Christmas tree lights? They bring this cosy atmosphere to your home. Well, once they’re finally in your tree that is.

No matter how organised I wrap them up every year, they always seem to move around in the cupboard before the next Christmas. And once I finally almost had them in place for this year, I noticed the smell of burning plastic. My tree is a plastic one. Even though I do appreciate the smell of the real thing – especially over (burned) plastic – I have a fake tree. Basically because I can’t stand the thought of having a plant in my home and throw it away once I don’t like it anymore. Besides, if I want to smell ‘forest’, I’ll go to the forest. To make up for it, my tree loses its (plastic) needles just like a real one though!

Anyway, I found the cause of the smell: the lights were hot, a twig got stuck to a light, that light was black and then I noticed that wasn’t the only place where tree parts were melting. I called my mum – she’s so creative and able to fix everything – who said to unplug them from the power (I did). Of course, when she came to have a look at them they behaved perfectly again, except for that little blackness… Oh well.

Maybe I’m not really a Christmassy person anymore, as shopping is not my kind of thing and I’m one of those people who feels sort of guilty to have lots of food, while you know that’s not the case for the rest of the world. I really appreciate some traditions though and I always look forward to the being together with family and friends and not having to do lots, other than enjoying each other’s company. But I also bet I’m not the only one so, let’s just do that. I’ll light some more candles, make peace with the ‘Christmastreelights’, and I hope you all have wonderful, cosy Christmas days!

Only the lights at the bottom of the tree wanted to cooperate at first, so I decorated Janey and myself instead. Janey appeared a bit ‘camera shy’ though… (she didn’t want to sit still, in other words).
