It was a lovely evening in November. The sky looked beautiful in purple by the time I walked out of the restaurant and onto the City Hall in Salisbury, for the Born Free gig Brian and Kerry were doing. It would be their second last night. I was only going to see this one, although I did see Brian and Roger with Adam Lambert earlier this year in London too. Yeah, to those of you who know me and the ‘astronomical connection’ Brian and I have: I’m still a Queen fan at heart too. Of course.
This afternoon I had already walked past the theatre, from the station to the hotel. There were posters announcing the show and I was almost fangirlish-y excited. Although the crowd was maybe a bit different from the huge gigs actually; it would be a more intimate show too. Which turned out to be very charming. There was the promised candle light, of which I just took a quick snap before they started. And there is a shot of the audience as well. I didn’t take any during the event as I was too busy enjoying the music.
And their comedy actually. I loved everything. I loved the new stuff (memo to me: ask when that Kissing song comes out ha!) I loved all the animals, the pictures, the ukulele (!!) and Brian’s voice. Still so moving. And Kerry doesn’t just sing beautifully either, she tells a story. I also loved how they made us sing along to the Queen classics like Somebody To Love and We Will Rock You (of course). My astronomy buddies will probably appreciate to know that Brian did a bit of explaining supernovae and how we’re all star-stuff. Got to love the guy eh. All in all, and I’ll say this once again guys, you were amazing.
When we all got out of the venue, the sky was stunningly clear. With Orion directing me to my bed for the evening. I couldn’t really remember where my hotel was, but even with my lack of sense of direction I wasn’t really worried. I was high on life still. The hotel had turned into a big party; ah British nightlife! There was a maze between the crowds and the rooms though and so it was almost magically quiet upstairs. Meanwhile No One But You was stuck in my head and I just sat at the desk for a while, before I fell asleep.
Salisbury > Southampton > Amsterdam > Heerlen
The next morning promised a beautiful day too. I was still a happy bunny anyway, packing for another replacement bus to the airport this time. It involved a lot of waiting, but in the sunshine. The bus ride was another Best Bus-ride Ever. And in the plane I did not only feel like I was on cloud number 9 figuratively. There was a friendly conductor at Schiphol who asked me about the SAVE ME badge on my coat and I proudly told him about Team Badger! I couldn’t for the life of me remember where my bike-key was, so I had to display all my bag’s contents on the train and I just thought… What a weekend.

The candle shot works really well, especially as you have the guitar in the background, waiting for the concert to begin. I cans sense the atmosphere there.
Thanks Graham. Someone did mention once I should do something with my photograpy talent
