This is a happy-bunny blog. Just thought I’d tell you straight away. If you know me, you know why I label myself an obsessive optimist. Glasses are full. But why dedicate this blog to it? Well it’s 2013 (lucky ’13) and people around me are using this moment to start afresh, creative and positive. I was made aware of this by Gia Milinovich, @giagia on twitter (whom I found through her husband @ProfBrianCox, whom I met at Astrofest).
Gia, who’s rather funny on twitter, also links to others who are spreading the good vibes and I just thought I’d pass it on. You can’t be reminded enough to look on the bright side. I did reply to her saying I feel hipster (doing it before it was cool) now it is becoming a trend, but there is a difference in that I won’t abandon this once it is mainstream. ‘This’ being Finding The Positive, as she titled her blog. The buzz can be summarised as: do something, be creative, feel alive.
Okay. Do what? Well you could always do something big and stand up for what you believe in. But you could also just have been the one who took this picture of a polar bear sleeping on a branch, for instance. Made lots of people smile. Or, come to think of it, you could’ve been the person who took up that Innocent offer to pop into Fruity Towers. And then write about that. The guy beat me to it really, but it made me smile. (As a long-time fan of their delightful drinks, I once took their advice and recycled the carton into scented slippers, but that aside).
Some small examples maybe, and I’m digressing a bit, yes. Thing is though, it’s not just that if you want to have nice memories later, you’ve got to make them now, as Loesje’s grandmother told her. It is rather undoable to truly live every day as if it was your last one. But maybe live as if it could have been? When the (ridiculous) ‘predicted’ apocalypse didn’t happen last month, I did think that if it all would’ve ended that day, I’d have gone happy. Not ready, but happy.
It’s a choice really. You don’t have to do anything. But I can tell you the world will be a nicer place (for you) if you try something. You probably will be more successful as well. Makes sense, doesn’t it. So where do you start? Maybe with this list, made by @bonniegrrl (whom I don’t know in real life and of whom I hope she won’t mind I ticked her list). I cheated a little with #11 as I prefer getting to know old music better, but in general this is stuff I do. Besides being a teacher, taking up the biology course and being an ambassador for science, of course.
I wasn’t named Hanny van Sparkle for no reason. People do compliment me for my twinkling way of looking at the world and this is why. Now before you’re going to comment that I’m bragging (again), this is not a supernatural gift that especially I was born with. Just do it too. Learn a new skill, make something, do talk to strangers. Pass it on and inspire someone else. Part of finding the positive, being creative and connecting, is to not denigrate others. Personally I appreciate any feedback, but if you didn’t like this blog – go write your own. Happy New Day.
