Maybe you’ve seen this question before on twitter – from me or from one of the other ‘astro people’ you know – but I thought I’d mention it here too. The Zookeepers (the astronomers behind Galaxy Zoo), have selected five images to represent the Zoo on the cover of October’s ‘Astronomy and Geophysics’. You can read more about this on the Zoo Blog. As you might’ve guessed, the Voorwerp is one of the candidates, selected by Chris Lintott. And here’s my ‘plea’ for it…
Sort of. Please vote for Hanny’s Voorwerp (here, scroll down a bit), which will only take one click! Or vote for any of the other candidates (I won’t get anything out of this personally). They are rather impressive on the pretty scale aren’t they? Dare I say that the Sombrero Galaxy for instance looks even more breathtaking than that green smudge? But – and you may say I’m biased – I’m with Chris on this one. Choosing the Voorwerp makes sense. I think it best represents the Zoo as it wouldn’t have been captured by Hubble without the Zoo in the first place. And I also like to think it represents Citizen Science at its finest…
Anyway, that’s it. Voting closes the 1st of August, I believe. Thanks for your time.

Hoi Hanny.
OK…that Sombrero-blob is pretty impressive…but..ah…nontheless…
Have just, of course(!!!!) voted for YOUR voorwerp! Hmmm..by the way, it seems that you are in second place at the moment and that isn’t good, now is it!? Does Arie already know of this “competition”? He could write a blog on this very important issue and raise some more votes?! Happy hols in steaming hot ye olde Blighty!
Thanks Jan. Ik zal Arie eens mailen. Hoewel we wel nog tot 1 augustus hebben natuurlijk! Bedankt voor je steun! X
