My friends and I weren’t the only ones attending Astrofest with cameras. Which is the main reason why there’s a part two to the story.
While we were sitting in the audience, listening to Brian and Patrick, we noticed a guy taking pictures of me. Graham figured the photographer probably recognised me and when we bumped into him later, I asked where I could see the pictures back. He gave me his card and a surprised e-mail when he realised I was indeed ‘The Hanny’ from ‘The Voorwerp’!
And I then found out the photographer was Max Alexander! I had seen his work before, as he did portraits of explorers of the universe. And besides these two pictures of me in the audience, he took some more for the Astronomy Now magazine. Thanks, Max!
After the show, when we were queuing to say hi to Chris and Patrick and Brian, we actually had fun talking to the people standing around us. One of them was Philip Roberts. Also a photographer. He asked if I would mind posing for him and he recently sent me the picture, after putting it on his own site as well. I share a page there with a great bunch of people, who Philip describes as “talented people who have irreversibly impacted their chosen field of expertise for good”. Wow. Thank you too, Philip!
And maybe I’ll post one more picture soon too…
