Inspired by ‘Astronomy Picture Of the Day’, ‘Astron Jive Daily Image’ and the ‘Object of the Day’ on the Galaxy Zoo forum, I just made up this title. Although ‘Picture of the Year’ would probably fit better, as I don’t have plans for posting pictures under this title on a monthly basis. ‘Picture of the Year’ also suggests it’s even more awesome. And it was taken a year ago…
Credit for it goes to Brian himself (yes!) with his camera, when we both attended the yearly Astrofest in London. I didn’t show it here before, as the picture taken with my camera wasn’t very good and Brian only sent this to me later, but also because I didn’t want to brag about meeting my ‘hero’. Lately I have been asked a lot though, whether or not I have met him and if he knows about my discovery, so here it is. We did talk about the latest on Hanny’s Voorwerp as well, which I indeed would never have found if it wasn’t for him pointing out Chris’ project in the first place. And the three of us also remembered that evening, when by a remarkable coincidence I’d already shaken hands with both Bri and Chris, two years before the idea of Galaxy Zoo was born. They’re both lovely chaps and it was a delightful afternoon.
Afternoons spent in London usually are; especially when meeting astronomy friends. Next weekend our fourth-Astrofest-in-a-row will take place and I’m looking forward to it very much. I’m flying in on Friday evening (after work) and will stay until Sunday afternoon. If you’re around and you’d like to meet, let me know. Fijn weekeinde allemaal!
