I found NEMO again

Here’s a quick note of how fun the museum weekend was again.

The Dutch Railway website had warned me for delays, but there weren’t any. The train took me from station Heerlen directly to Amsterdam Central in the planned two and a half hours. And though I did this trip last year, knowing me I’d printed a little Google map of how to find the biggest science center of the Netherlands. However, this year there were big signs pointing to NEMO too!

I did remember my way around inside the remarkable building, so it was easy to find ‘my spot’ again. Though it was my friends Jan and Arie’s spot on the Saturday; thanks again guys! Like them, I had a lot of interested kids and adults trying out Galaxy Zoo. And I also met up with two people from the European Space Agency! There were just as many English speaking visitors as there were Dutch by the way, and I’ve spoken to teachers who’re interested in using the Zoo in their classes as well.

It was funny to realise that last year, when Zooniverse’s technical genius Arfon Smith introduced the Zoonometer, we were counting down to the first million clicks. By coincidence, a new goal was set for this weekend, and the 60,000,000th classification was done not long afterwards. Luckily, I also had some help on the Sunday, by the wonderful guys from JWG. They helped adding to the sixty million, but also by explaining the project with me.

All in all, another great event. I handed out all the login codes I had and headed home feeling satisfied. Welcome to the Zoo to all new Zooites!
