Lecturing again

While the Summer holidays are officially here and I’m not even thinking of teaching much at the moment, my other “job” still continues. The Voorwerp-related one.

Recently two of my friends mentioned how remarkable it is that I also still find time to do ‘all of these other things’, while I didn’t think it would come across like I do that much. Now they got me thinking about it though, I do spent quite some time with my laptop, answering Voorwerp-related e-mails for instance. E-mails from reporters and/or photographers who’d like to make an appointment for an interview/shoot. E-mails from organisations who’d like to make an appointment for me to come over and do a lecture. E-mails from my scientist-colleagues who’d like my input on one of our projects. E-mails from random strangers from random places in the world, asking random questions about the Voorwerp.

And then there’s the actual travelling to those places, giving the interviews, smiling at the cameras, doing my lectures, talking to people at events and of course writing about all of this on my own website, or even as ‘freelancer’ for magazines! I’m also still keeping an eye on the Galaxy Zoo forum as a moderator (I’ve been asked a lot recently whether or not I’m still actually involved in the Zoo – so yes).

When I stared this little blog I didn’t really have in mind where it would go, like I usually do, but I guess it’s nice to have this summed up. I also get asked frequently if I still do all of the organising myself and I do (of course). And I like doing all of this and I also still find time (even though it does just go way too fast) to enjoy life.

Anyway, I had planned to write I did another lecture recently. Roland Taams from Astronomy Society Omega Centauri invited me over to Wilnis, a place close to Utrecht. And even though the nice weather resulted in me being able to be in a picture with my whole audience easily, it was a nice evening. It’s always good to inspire people about something cool and important like astronomy. And there might be a sequel to this meeting…
