I was recently chatting to some friends who I’ve met in ‘Astronomyland’. It feels like we’ve known each other a lot more years than we actually have and so I was reminded that some of them weren’t around yet, when a bunch of us took a trip to the Jodrell Bank Observatory in Manchester. I promised I’d dig out a few pictures, as I didn’t have my site back when this particular meet took place either. This was in the summer of 2008. We had only been ‘Zooites’ (ie citizen scientists) for a year and it’s clear to see how much the cameras have been improved since! We got a special tour and I’ll give you a peek of it through these pictures…
I captured this dish and Graham and Edd looking at it. It was a beautiful sight and a beautiful day.
The next two group pictures were taken with Adam’s camera. In the control room you see from left to right: Alice, Edd, Jules, Adam, David, Graham, Steven, Hanny, Sophie, Gemma and Weez in front. Outside it’s: Edd, David, Weez, Steven, Graham and Alice.
These were taken by Jules. You see Tim O’Brien, who gave us the excellent backstage tour, and the special buttons, of which I only remember we weren’t even allowed to think of touching!
The last three pictures were probably taken by John. There’s the group in front of the dish, with: Steven, Edd, Hanny, Jules, Graham, Gemma, David, Sophie, Alice and Weez. We also sat in the field and played some guitar (I remember a few Beatles songs coming along). Good memories!
