Yes, it’s indeed already five years since I first asked what that blue smudge in my picture (on GalaxyZoo) was. Five! Years! Time not only just flies, it flies fast. Although it’s ‘only’ been in the media for four years, in most ways it feels even a lot shorter than that. In some it does also seems like it’s been around for a lifetime, as the thingy is pretty much unavoidable in conversations with people I meet.
Other than that, it still doesn’t change my everyday life much and I need people making lists like this ‘Astronomical Eponyms’ to remind me there’s an object in the sky named after me. I do still think it’s cool though! Don’t get me wrong, I’m quite fond of my space frog. And my grandmother would’ve been impressed. She just missed it, as she died a year before the discovery, but she was even proud of the fact I could get 30 kids to listen to me at once, so.
Anyway, I said I wasn’t going to do anything special to mark the occasion and I haven’t really. It’s a bit hard to identify the actual (discovery) birthday too, as I can’t remember on what date I e-mailed the team. But that means if we’ll have a party in 2017, we can just party all August!
Last week, I did get a few congratulation e-mails and nice people on twitter sent their wishes too and I just thought I’d share those. Happy birthday, Forwurp!

5 (licht)jaar is zo ongeveer de afstand naar de dichtstbijzijnde ster! Maar ik vermoed dat het voorwerp nog een stukje verder weg is…
Correct; zo’n 650 miljoen lj.
