My diary shows exciting times ahead, especially for the astronomy ambassador in me. I just mentioned the exposition we’ll be at, there are still two lectures planned (one in Oostende, Belgium and one in Maastricht, Netherlands) – and I’ve been asked for a third next year. In between, I also did an interview for a German science magazine and I’ll be doing another TV show soon. I’m also still working on my presentation for France and we’ll be at this rather cool event in Amsterdam!
The Discovery Festival appears to be a hip happening, taking place at night, in three Dutch cities, of which Amsterdam is one (the others are in Rotterdam and Eindhoven). According to their website it’s all about the thrill of discovering new things. New science, new art and new music. Sounds like something I’d attend and I’m going to! I don’t really know what to expect, but the exciting part for me will be giving a talk using 20 slides, with exactly 20 seconds for each slide!
Topics I’ll speak about will be my own discovery and the project which enabled me to find it: Galaxy Zoo. It’s been five years since the launch of this online citizen science project and today the new site was born! New pictures have been added to the database, from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey as well as Hubble Space Telescope. This means you’ll be looking at pictures again, that nobody else has seen before! So if you haven’t yet, go check out galaxyzoo.org. And hopefully see you soon in Amsterdam!
