Dún na nGall

We’re on the road again. And we have been for most of the day. Which has been absolutely amazing. Once we were out of Dublin, the satnav (“recalculating, recalculating”) wasn’t that confused anymore and ever since we’ve seen a bit of Donegal, I’m thinking it’s probably the most beautiful place in the world.

After we dropped our bags at the hotel for the next three nights, we had planned to drive up to Leo’s Tavern in Crolly, via Kilkenny and Dungloe, to see some of the west side of this county. The roads here are pretty much the same everywhere: one or two lanes, with some bends, but a speed limit of a hundred kilometers an hour. And there’s hardly any traffic.

At some point we had to stop though, as a group of sheep had decided to stretch their legs on this one lane road and they weren’t planning on moving. Sure, when Edd drove slowly up to them, they started walking, but not in the direction of one of the many green options. They just kept on walking in the direction we wanted to as well. I thought it was highly amusing. I mean, can you imagine yourself telling your boss you were late because there were sheep on the road?

We managed to find Leo’s and had a great dinner there. It was very special for me to be there as I’ve heard a lot about it from my parents. On the way back it was getting darker, but this place is pretty every time of day. Which is why I thought the sudden announcement of a scenic route was hilarious. It’s all scenic and we’ll try to see as much as we can of it tomorrow as well.

Haha, I can imagine the sheep problem was amusing. Believe me, I’ve come up with worse excuses for being late…..

Enjoy yourselves and keep up the good work for all of us…

Hé Hanny and Edd, Don’t you think this part of Ireland ( Dún na nGall ) feels a bit like holy ground? When I was there it did! Nice to see back the pictures of Leo’s. Did you do Errigal mountain already?
