I think the whole of Ireland knows now…

That I’m here. That I’m doing two lectures. And that you can discover things through Galaxy Zoo. After going into the city one more time, before we’re heading for Donegal tomorrow, we had planned to meet David Moore, chairman of Astronomy Ireland. And we’d do one interview together.

That was the one for Today FM, which I announced earlier. Before that however, 4 FM invited me to their studio as well and I also got a call from the well-known RTE Radio 1, with whom I had a live interview over the phone. I feel very welcome here.

The lecture went well too and Trinity college is very nice. After the 15 minutes for questions and some magazine signing, I was the guest of honor at the party in a nearby pub. David complimented me for my English skills, although at first he thought I was pulling some Irish legs, as apparently my accent is already adjusting to the local.

One of the guys in the audience was the first since a long time in Ireland to discover a few asteroids! He told us about how that went and how you are not allowed to name it after yourself – which I think is a stupid rule. He named the first after his mother, who died not that long ago. It will be officially called Catherine Griffin at the end of this month (hope I spelled that correctly).

It was an amusing evening and it was midnight before we knew it. I wrote this in the car, on our way to Donegal and I’ve been asked to do another radio interview there as well, before the second lecture on Wednesday. But first we’ll enjoy the lovely sights.

On our way to Donegal we stopped to have a picnic lunch by this beautiful river.

My daughter just married a Scot. On her least trip to Scotland she and her husband visited Ireland and sent me some great pictures. My Great Grandmother immigrated to the U.S. in her 20′s and married my great grandfather. They lived in Texas, which isn’t anything like Ireland but is a nice place if you like heat and dangerous insects.
