My feet are on Irish land! Edd and I actually dragged our luggage around from the airport to the rental car and it was over 20 degrees, so we were glad when we’d finally found it, the hotel and a parking space. But we’re in Ireland!
And when I say that, it feels like saying: “We’re in Neverneverland!” It’s like a fairytale and I keep telling myself I’m really in Dublin, meanwhile visualizing the map in my head. We’ve been lucky to have nice weather this weekend as well and we went to see the river Liffey, Dublin Castle and Phoenix Park. The river is important for Dublin and it comes with some nice bridges (I love bridges anyway). Dublin Castle comes with a nice garden (and a friendly, sleepy cat on a bench) and in Phoenix Park we saw the residence of the Irish president, ‘Áras an Uachtaráin.
Before we went to the park, we stopped by an Irish supermarket to get some food for lunch. We had a picnic in the park on the meadow where later a polo game would start. The food here is very nice by the way and we had a pretty mountain view too. We laid down and looked at some clouds. There was one in the form of a whale and when I pointed it out to Edd, the whale’s mouth shaped a laugh, as Edd couldn’t see the animal. Then the helicopter came and the whale almost ate it. But the wind blew my big fish in another direction and it swam away from us, waving with its tail.
Edd thinks I’m crazy. He said so while I was making the pacman-computergame-sounds the traffic lights for pedestrians make here. It’s really cheerful! At first they just tick, but then, before ticking faster, they sort of say “Pew!”, which I suspect is Irish for “Ready-steady-go!” Anyway, we’re back in the hotel, which has a nice area to sit in and we’ll make plans soon for tomorrow, when I’m doing the first lecture. Talk soon!
